Stamp: Exposition Universelle Paris 1900 Medaille D’or H.V.
Height: 18 7/8″

Signed and stamped . Valton was known for his big cats but
probably his most famous work is the chained mastiff dog. This particular model
was the one exhibited at the salon and Won much praise. It has the Stamp as
well: Exposition Universelle Paris 1900 Medaille D’or H.V. It was a popular
piece and was cast in several sizes later on, from a small desk top versions up
to a larger size. This bronze is about 18 1/4″ , one of the larger
versions and very finely detailed, even the clasp holding the chain on the
dog’s collar is cast bronze. The sign on the poost reads Passez Au Large in
French which pretty much translates to Beware Of The Dog. It is finished in a
dark brown black patina. Antique Dealer Los Angeles Melrose Ave La Cienega CA
This beautiful bronze sculpture would be the perfect addition to any library,
an office, an elegant space, a man’s den. The subject of a chained fighting dog
was done by several French artists in the late 19th Century as the Bulldog and
pit bull or mastiff breeds were very popular in England and America at this
time. It is a powerful subject as the dog lunges on his chain. The Artist :
